Skowhegan, Maine: We invite a confident GENERAL NEUROLOGIST to join an established Neurology service operated by a respected independent 25-bed critical access hospital. This community medical center provides primary and specialty care to more than 30,000 residents in this riverside community in central Maine 1 hour from Bangor and 90 minutes from Portland. Join over 40 physicians (and 700+ employees) delivering progressive health and medical services in beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities.

Candidates requiring J1 or H1b visa sponsorship are encouraged to apply. This is an equal opportunity employer.

You will replace a retiring Neurologist and practice alongside an experienced Neurology FNP in a comfortable medical office building on the hospital campus. You will assess and treat outpatients for a variety of issues, illnesses and conditions supported by MAs, an office manager and a practice secretary. You will make occasional inpatient consults. Enjoy a convenient weekday schedule with your choice of 5 8-hour days or 4 10-hour days. There is NO CALL. The hospital’s 24/7 Emergency Department manages urgent cases, and a dedicated Hospitalist team cares for all admitted patients.

You will be employed by the hospital and earn a very competitive salary with benefits that include relocation assistance, life, health and disability insurance, liability insurance, lots of paid time off for vacation, holidays, sick leave and CME time, a generous budget for your CME expenses, and more. Student loan assistance is also available. For anyone needing immigration support, all costs will be covered.

Maine is the #2 State for Living and Working, and the #2 Safest State in the US. Come see how it earns the nickname, Vacationland. Skowhegan is at the base of Maine’s North Woods, an outdoor recreation lover’s dream with dozens of lakes and rivers and scenic mountains. Winters are reliable for miles of snowy snowmobile and snowshoeing trails. Skiing, snowboarding and sledding can be enjoyed locally on Eaton Mountain (3 miles from the hospital) or on the big slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain, one of New England’s premier ski facilities, 40 miles away. In summer, enjoy activities provided by the local waterways, including some of the best trout fly-fishing in New England plus kayaking or white-water rafting. Or play golf, go hiking and biking, or maybe camping on the banks of a quiet lake. There is something here for everyone who loves the outdoors. Moose and bald eagles are seen often.

Skowhegan schools are highly rated. For your next home, you may choose a vintage Victorian home downtown, or a comfortable suburban house in a family-filled neighborhood, or a historic farmhouse, with acreage to enjoy. The Skowhegan State Fair brings fun and food to town each August, with a popular petting zoo and local food and crafts. Surrounding communities offer art, theatre, gyms, children’s programs, unique restaurants and more – making this a great place to raise a family.

Skowhegan is 30 minutes north of the college town of Waterville (Colby College and Thomas College), and 60 minutes west of Bangor, Maine’s third largest city, with an international airport, a respected children’s museum, a casino/hotel, summer music and arts festivals on the riverfront, and more.

Skowhegan is 1 hour from Maine's scenic coast, and 90 minutes from Portland, with hundreds of restaurants plus theaters, a symphony orchestra, semi-pro sports, the International Jetport, and the high-energy Old Port district of shops and nightclubs. Skowhegan is 3.5 hours from Boston, and 3 hours from Quebec, Canada.
