 Carilion Clinic has embarked upon a bold initiative to transform a traditional healthcare system of 8 hospitals and numerous physician practice sites into a multi-specialty, physician-led clinic model. In collaboration with Virginia Tech, Carilion is expanding its commitment to medical education with the development of multiple new fellowships, the establishment of a clinical research institute, and the recently accredited Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (Fall 2010). Located at the southern tip of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, Roanoke is a metropolitan area of 300,000 surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains with a 21,000-acre lake nearby and a mild, four season climate.
